Wintering In

I should have flown south with the geese a few weeks ago. There was something in the air, a pushing of the winds. The icy hands of Father Winter reached down from the north, claiming and gaining territory in the northern hemisphere, each year trying to reach farther and farther.
But the allure of making money with a stable job in a small town appeals to me, particularly during hard times. Things weren't this hard when I started in 2017, 2018, 2019, and in the fall of 2020. But, times have changed. The installation of a new resident in the White House brought uncertain gas prices and jobs, due to covid mandates.
With the higher gas prices, I can't travel...at least not as much...and certainly not in the Godspeed, which gets only 8 miles per gallon. It would cost me a gazillion dollars just to get south. And then I'd have to find a job when I got there. It just seemed easier to stay.
Plus, I actually (on most days) enjoy the job at the motel.

And...I have to repair the Godspeed. The storage area above the driver's side cab started bouncing on rocky roads. The road I was on wasn't even that rocky. It was mostly dirt. But...suddenly, I could feel a pressure in my hair, pulling the most sensitive pieces upward. Then, with a woooosh, I could feel my hair press back down. It was like an invisible hand, lifting and settling my hair.
When I looked up, I saw the cab over the driver's side bouncing. I'm going to have to write a separate blog post about everything that happened to the driver's side and the repairs made.
Perhaps the weight of all my stuff when I drove it around for those years held the over-the-cab down with weight. Now that my stuff is inside the motel apartment, the holding-pressure is removed, and the old parts just couldn't hold on any longer.
So, I need to repair that now.
And a tail light. This happened in the last several days. I haven't even been driving it, so I think someone may have popped it off.

We'll see how it goes. I'm going to ride out winter here.
Winter.
