Getting the Godspeed Rolling

After being broken down for two months, Tuesday morning was go-time. I'd waited three weeks to get in to a busy shop to make necessary repairs. Without a working fuel pump, a vehicle will not go. My appointment finally arrived, and I had the RV towed to Done Right. Standing at the counter, I gave the fuel pump from Auto Zone to the mechanic.

Leaving the shop with my friend Brenda, we determined to begin a little mechanical project of our own: replacing the lower AC line on the Xterra.

In less than an hour, we had the old part off and the new one installed. There was enough time to play with puppies and eat lunch before retrieving the motorhome.

Only....around one in the afternoon, something crimped the line. Done Right called to say they discovered gas leaking into the carburetor. This was a problem. With fuel now being pumped into the carbur-ated area at a higher pressure than the old pump, there was a higher risk for engine fire. "Engine's not ready to be on the road," Jacob said solemnly. I would need a carburetor rebuild. Their carburetor shop has one in stock. What did I want to do?

The only thing I could do: get the repair.

The shop closed at four, so I went up around 3:30 to check on progress and watched while the mechanic twisted the last few bolts into place.

By the end of the day, the Godspeed rolled again! (The bonus is that with a new fuel pump, the gas gauge now works! No more recording mileage and gallons between fill ups!)
