Last fall and in the midst of teaching a total of eight classes with a total student count of about 150 students and grading roughly 200 assignments a week, I found myself in a conference with one of my students. She sought help on an assignment and brought several children along with her. While discussing the assignment, one of the children intoned, "I'm bored."
In that moment, I wished I had the luxury to be bored. But, that's how it is in childhood. You're told when to take a nap. You have lots of free time. And, everything is provided for you. Yet, somehow, most children don't understand that luxury.
My top goal when I left Craig was to not teach for two months--January and February--and try to get to some semblance of free time, both physically and mentally. And, so, I've been doing a little of this and a little of that.
I've been out a few times to listen to live music.

I've enjoyed playing with the dogs.

I've made progress at the health food store organizing the shelves of vitamins and supplements. (This is fun because I'm also learning so much!)

It wasn't until I was in the car wash that I realized I'm almost bored. I needed to find something to occupy my mind...some goal that was not computer based.

So...by putting this out here and making it public, I'm kind of committing myself to a new endeavor. I have a goal of learning a new craft by the end of February. Stay tuned to find out more!
