The plans all changed at the start of Step 3. I was supposed to take the Xterra down to St. George, get a ride back to Escalante for the RV, do a little camping while I waited for the repair appointment, drive the RV up to Junction, and return with the van to fulfill the rest of the Great Vehicle Migration details.

Only, that's not what's happening at all. Let's start from my picking up the Xterra....

At a little after noon on Friday, Saint George of Grand Junction dropped me off in Escalante with the plan to drive the Xterra to (ironically?) meet up in St. George of Utah, where he would shuttle me back to Escalante for the RV.

With the sun high in the sky and the Xterra pointed west on Highway 12, I called the RV repair shop to let them know I would need to drop my vehicle and go back for the RV. I also wanted to make sure that the new fridge would be installed next Friday, the 4th.

"Ma'am, that part's not shipping until the 7th," the parts lady intoned.

"But, I'm supposed to be there on the 8th to pick it up. I have someone who is going to help shuttle vehicles."

"Oh, it won't be here by then. I'll have the tracking number on the eighth."

What do you do,

when plans fall through?

So, I called my ex-husband, the one flying in from St. Louis to help me shuttle vehicles. I wanted him to know the situation.

"Well, I really need a vacation," he said.

So he's still flying out to Vegas and will help shuttle the van.

I'm currently in Step 5 of my former plan, represented by the squiggly line, which means I'm camping at an undisclosed location somewhere in southern Utah. I'm sitting out here in the RV, enjoying the last hurrah of summer and nomading and freedom for awhile. While I'm out here, I'm working on my lesson planning and revising the Hanukkah book. (Edition 2 coming soon!)

I am going to have to return for the RV in a few weeks, possibly early September.
