Since I'm not on social media any more, I'm finding myself working on all those little projects I kept putting off. I've installed hooks, fixed cabinet hardware, and tightened the screws on the exterior "home" part of the Godspeed. This past week, I took the plunge on something bigger, something I've both wanted (and dreaded): paint the RV.

In my wildest dreams, this RV is painted in burgundy, green, and purple with little bright yellow stars. But...I can't do that just yet. For right now, the Godspeed needs to go into obscurity. This is the Playne-Jayne Version, and it is for good cause. The philosophy among the "full-timers" and the nomadic road warriors is that the more you can blend in, the better. My friend Seth said it like this: "The more you stick out, the more you attract attention. If you are dry camping on a city street, you want to be out of there by sun-up. But things happen. Sometimes you don't wake up on time. People aren't going to notice if you're a little late as if you're just a regular old RV, but if you've got an RV painted like a turtle or a bumble bee, that will get attention." So, since I'm still nomading, I've decided to go with this Playne-Jayne route.
I'm using a latex primer/paint on fiberglass and probably shattering all the painting rules that ever existed, but I've seen other people use latex paint with good results. After a few years in, the paint still holds up. I went with a semi-gloss finish to give it a little sheen in the sun. The sheen should help camouflage some of the mystery bumps and uneven paint. (At least, that's what I'm hoping!)
My friend Brenda is teaching me how to use fiberglass and bondo to repair a hole. After seeing how this stuff works, I'm envisioning all kinds of crazy artistic ideas. We'll be sanding the hole this week, and I should have the second color applied over the course of this week. Stay tuned to see what comes next!
I'm stuck on location until I can get my fuel pump repaired on March 30. (Yes...we have to drop the tank!) In the meanwhile, I'm trying to look for either my spring-to-fall seasonal employment or my forever-until-I-actually-retire career. I've got a few leads on things, and we'll see where that goes.
Stay tuned!
