Now what?

I'd already slept until sunrise, taken a walk, and made oatmeal.

Now what?

A gust of wind tore through the open window and fluttered a paper to the floor.

It was my List of Things.

I'd made the list in early March when I needed more definition to my life. I'd needed something beyond work, work, work. The list is organized into four categories:

  1. The Need to Narrow My Focus (a list of big things I want to accomplish)

  2. Needs

  3. Obstacles

  4. Things I Want to Learn

Of the eight things under "Things I Want to Learn," number eight appealed to me: Painting--watercolor.

The two boxes of paints and the two small canvases (canvi?) had been shuffling around the RV, moving from one place to the next until I finally had the time to paint.

Well...here it is! Time to paint!

I've painted lots before: walls. I've also hand painted a few signs. I'd always wanted to try impressionist art.

After setting up my table and chair, I tied my hair back from the wind. Not optimal painting weather. The heat and wind would quickly dry the paints.

I looked at the paint colors available in the set from Hobby Lobby and reminded myself it's "impressionist art." The art just has to make an impression.

The goal was to make chunky splotches of color so that it vaguely gave the impression of the pyramid mountain.

I kept reminding myself of that as I struggled to put the contours of the mountain onto the 5×7 canvas.

The colors didn't look right either. But that's okay, it's just an impression. I kept telling myself that, but soon I realized one thing: I am not an artist. In the grand scheme of things, I'm not even sure I want to devote time and money yo learning technique...at least not in my present life.

So, I scratched "painting" off my list.

And that freed my time to do something I did want to pursue, which was to learn a new song on the ukulele.

Your painting looks like a mountain to me! I hope the rest of your trip is safe and fun!

🤣 Oh man. I also wish I had some artistic talent. I'd love to be a doodler or to learn to sketch. I just don't have the knack for it. That gift went to other family members cause boy are they gifted. I have toyed with the idea of painting rocks that have the basic shape of some animal or something else that comes to mind. Maybe you can paint things like that too. After all, you're already collecting rocks ! I'm happy you have this time off to just contemplate and play.
