Eight Days

I read something recently that talked about the psychology of an eight-day vacation. Eight days is the optimal number.

Eight days sounds glorious, but I have five days with no computer obligations until school starts again next Monday. If it will even start for me. Maybe they'll kick me out after responding to a student email not-too-gently. The student said her whole education was on the line because up to this point, she's made As. And now she's a senior and she's receiving a B in each of her classes this term. She asked whether her whole education had been a farce and she was simply "passed through" each class with an A. She said she's so disappointed and recognizes her entire writing portfolio might be trash. She had to take this situation to someone higher.

So...um...yeah.

I need a vacation. Either I'm getting crotchety with students and grading, or students are looking for the easy A. I don't give the easy A because I don't like reading crap.

So...um...yeah.
