A Rolling Stone Gathers No Moss

I remember stumbling across a scripture in Bible college that left me confounded. The phrasing is "poverty come[s] as one that travelleth." It's in Proverbs 6, the same chapter as the address to the lazy: "Go to the ant, thou sluggard; consider her ways and be wise." The chapter deals with making wise choices with regard to our natural provisions (among other things).

The scripture about poverty and traveling always gave me pause because I like to travel. But I don't want to be so poor that I can't take care of myself. (Some of you will remember the several times I clung to the edge of poverty, broken down in the old RV in strange towns where I knew no one. But....that was always a lesson in faith. The good Lord provided every time.)

So.... recently, I've considered this scripture alongside the saying, "A rolling stone gathers no moss." Moss is green; money is green. If I'm not putting gas in my car to travel to distant places, then I'm saving money.

Because of this line of thinking, I've kept closer to the hotel. I only ventured over to Colorado to check on a friend who struggled with her health. I went over there to see if I could be of help, while also getting away for a few days. That was at the start of May. I returned to Buena Vista. Near my friend's house was a whole herd of horses in a field.

On the way back from Colorado, I stopping Hanksville and found this little flower reaching skyward like a satellite dish near the Mars Research Station.

In keeping with staying close to the hotel, I used four days working on the RV and my little side yard near the hotel garage.

I also traveled down the Burr Trail to check out a short slot canyon, which is the first picture in this post.

I climbed up to a shelf at the start of the canyon and found this cheery cactus flower.

Speaking of canyons, a friend dropped by on a motorcycle trip from Salina, Kansas. We hiked the Willis Creek slot canyon.

In other news...

I got a new timing belt on the Xterra. I also changed the water pump, belts, and one of the hoses.

With all my non-traveling, I was also able to afford an electric ukulele. Somehow I got involved in a music project that lead to a few live performances. And now we're playing the Wild Potato Days Festival next week, so an electric ukulele was required. (Fortunately, someone is loaning me the amp!)

That's about all! I just wanted to post this to let everyone know I'm okay. (Thanks to some of you for reaching out when you didn't hear from me in awhile. ❤️)
